Call of Duty, as the fans knew it, has gone, and it seems like devs aren’t doing anything to get that status back. Recently, they added the infamous Rebirth Island to the game for faster gameplay, however, it too failed to live up to the mark. Moreover, Activision is doing collabs after collabs, which prompted some to compare the game with the battle royale title Fortnite.
Players once enjoyed the game for its storytelling and attention to detail. Nevertheless, now the creators aren’t either telling stories or paying attention to any of the details; they’re just vegging out for skins. The latest installment in the series, Modern Warfare 3, tried to incorporate Warzone-like elements, which was criticized as ruining the campaign’s experience, as fans are typically used to.
Call of Duty Wants to be Fortnite Very Badly
It is difficult to decide who to believe. On one hand, Activision says they are having a blast concerning the popular military shooter, meanwhile, fans’ reactions tell a different story. Recently, Call of Duty came up with a new skin called CODasaurus that resembles a dinosaur.
However, fans didn’t seem very excited about that and began expressing their opinions about that. One user dubbed Kommander Karl says on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), that he “can’t think of a single series that has lost its identity this bad.”

Another user called The Elusive Fox chimed in, “It wants to be Fornite so badly. It’s an identity crisis at this point.

Fortnite is known for its colorful collaborations with celebrities and virtual concerts that have garnered the game attention in extravagance. Commercially, it appears to be a step in the right direction. However, there have been concerns regarding the boundaries between virtual entertainment and the real world.
Those Days May Have Been Forgotten by Many but Not Lost in Time
The long-time fans playing or just keeping up with the news surrounding Call of Duty know the game has brought in some big names for collaboration. Following the FIFA World Cup 2022, Activision added skins of star footballers including Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, and Neymar Jr.
Moreover, veteran rapper Snoop Dogg has been a recurring character in the game as can be seen in Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It seems like Activision just loves him as he makes his way in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, again.
To this date, the best of the Call of Duty games includes 2007’s Modern Warfare and its successor, World at War, Black Ops, and more. The latest installment in the series is due this year but the company hasn’t announced anything, though it may be another Black Ops game. Here’s hoping it will change the course of the winds and players will again get to see the beloved game they once enjoyed.
Do you think Call of Duty should stop paying attention to collaborations? We would like to know your thoughts in the comments.
