Fortnite launched in 2017 at a time when single-player games were at an all-time high but managed to gain notoriety for its unique gameplay and build features that rival the competitive nature of multiplayer games like Call of Duty. The player count and community grew as more YouTubers and influencers began to cover the game, it was inevitable for public figures like Dr. Disrespect and TimTheTatman to draw some comparisons.
Video games are very high maintenance, teams of programmers and developers monitor every department to ensure that they are operating correctly and up to standard. The difficulty is way different for a live-service game but Epic Games is the master when it comes to quality assurance, after each update their game gets better and better, meanwhile Call of Duty is a struggling mess.
Dr. Disrespect Is Not Amused With Call Of Duty Updates
Dr. Disrespect and TimTheTatman had a conversation about the recent updates Call of Duty has had and how each update is doing more damage to the game engine.
The game runs on an engine that was used years ago, since then it has been altered, changed, and optimized to run a bit shinier and hopefully smoother on newer consoles. Call of Duty has been running on the same engine for quite a while and it is showing its age and is running on fumes.
Game developers and programmers can only do so much when the engine is already way too old to handle all the new content they added and adjust it in a way that can be still operational. The Jak Purifier was broken and extremely overpowered after an update for Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 Reloaded after an update, another piece of evidence that it breaks more than it fixes after each patch.
Activision Needs A Major Engine Overhaul For Call Of Duty To Keep Up With Fortnite
Epic Games never encountered such a problem, regardless of how massive their updates can be, bugs and crashes are rare and if there are any that exist, they are dealt with promptly. Fortnite also had the advantage of having a much more advanced and well-tuned game engine that could handle their new ideas for game modes like programming a bunker that contains superior loot like high caliber weapons, gold, and heals.
Call of Duty and Fortnite are two of the biggest multiplayer and battle royale live services at the moment, there will always be issues that need constant fixing which include server problems and having to accommodate millions of players from all over the world. Players have high hopes for the game and it is the responsibility of the developer to meet them at least halfway and must show that their games are worthy of fan support.
