There has been plenty of rumour about who the next James Bond may be and ahead of any planned announcement, many fans of the popular franchise have been giving their opinion on who they would like to see. With Daniel Craig departing the role with a worthy finale in 2021’s No Time to Die, the opportunity for a new actor to become the world’s greatest spy has seen huge speculation.

However, these rumours aside, one actor from another popular franchise took time to reflect on the super spy’s appearance in one of the greatest video games of our time. The game in question is the 1997 Nintendo 64 title Goldeneye and the first-person shooter is regarded as the greatest game ever released for that console.

James Bond’s greatest video game

Who remembers experiencing this game for the very first time?

John Bradley who stars in the upcoming series 3 Body Problem, is probably best known as Samwell Tarley in Game of Thrones. He spoke recently about his love of the Goldeneye game and what it meant to him growing up. No doubt for many fans, his comments will ring true with many of you.

For many players like Bradley, this would have been their first experience in gaming, and what a way to be introduced to a whole new world. There have been many movie adaptations of games over the years but few have had the same impact with fans as this one based around the world’s greatest spy.

Bradley brings up the feeling you get when you are killed in the game and sees the blood dripping down the screen. Many players will remember this well given how difficult the game could be. But make no mistake, this game was revolutionary. If not for Goldeneye, then we wouldn’t have some of the FPS games we have had in current times.

Goldeneye brings plenty of nostalgia.

Many fans still regard this as one of the greatest games of all time.

In our review of the Nintendo 64 title, many fans will no doubt feel some nostalgia regarding the 1997 game, which is still held in the hearts of many gamers. For those who haven’t experienced the game, where have you been? Go to a retro arcade and discover what it’s like for yourself.

Sure the graphics are boxy and don’t compare to anything you’ll see in modern games but that is part of the appeal. You don’t need amazing graphics to enjoy a game like this and for many gamers who experienced it when it first released, the multiplayer option was one of the big draws.

In a time before online gaming, you could have had your friends sitting around the TV, each with their controller and a split-screen competition of absolute carnage. Whilst it has been well over 25 years since Goldeneye was released, the nostalgia of the game still holds for fans and many players would be more than happy to load up the game to experience it all over again.
