However, she does return in the manga and her epic transformation has taken the Jujutsu Kaisen world by storm. Fans who have not read the manga are still waiting to see the change Maki goes through. And the thing that makes it even more interesting is that she even gets insanely stronger than she was before.

While fans eagerly wait for Maki Zenin to get animated in the series, it feels like Akutami might have taken inspiration from one Matrix movie character for the character of Maki. And that character is none other than Trinity who is played by the famous Canadian actress Carrie-Anne Moss.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Maki Zenin’s Epic Transformation in Jujutsu Kaisen

As the second season has ended in Jujutsu Kaisen anime, Maki Zenin is going to undergo a significant metamorphosis and become one of the most powerful characters in the novel. Following her burn injury from Jogo during the Shibuya Incident storyline, Maki undergoes a significant transformation that endows her with unparalleled strength and power in addition to a new look.

Numerous parallels between Maki’s awakening and the murderous sorcerer Toji Fushiguro have been drawn by various characters. She poses a threat due to her talents and recent transformation. Because of her heavenly restriction being lifted during an incident in the manga, she now also goes insanely strong.

She is given full access to superhuman strength, speed, and durability—abilities that were previously restricted by the finite amount of cursed energy she had carried since birth. Manga readers are aware of the rebellious nature of her later works, but anime fans are eagerly waiting for it to be animated.

Maki Zenin’s Transformation Might Be Inspired By Trinity From Matrix

Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen has explicitly accepted that they have taken inspiration from many other series, movies, and shows. They have explained in multiple interviews about the series being developed from the inspiration they got from other people’s work.

This can also be said for Maki Zenin’s transformation after Shibuya. Taking a close look at the appearance of Maki after the second season, fans can notice that she looks just like the character Trinity from the Matrix trilogy. The character is played by Carrie-Anne Moss and except for the scars they both look almost similar.

While this has not been confirmed by Akutami or any officials of Jujutsu Kaisen, nothing can be said for certain about the similarity or the inspiration. But the resemblance between both characters is uncanny. Fans eagerly wait to see Maki Zenin unleashing her full potential in the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen and the pain she had to go through to reach that level of strength.
