Kieran Culkin is starring in the upcoming comedy-drama film A Real Pain opposite Jesse Eisenberg. The film was recently screened at the Sundance Film Festival and received great reviews from those who attended the premiere at the festival. Culkin and Eisenberg participated in a Q&A session where they talked about the film and the behind-the-scenes stories about its production.

Culkin was asked about working with Eisenberg and his directorial skills. Culkin narrated a specific anecdote during filming where Eisenberg gave some notes to him after shooting the first scene. Culkin hilariously dismissed it and told him that he didn’t need one from an actor. He said, (via Vulture)

“There was a pretty good rapport right away. But right after the first scene, he’d be like, ‘Cut,’ and start giving me notes. And my first thought is, like, b**ch, I got notes for you, too. I don’t want to be noted by an actor. Get out of here. F**k you.”

The film about two cousins reuniting for a tour to honor their grandmother received a standing ovation after the screening. A theatrical release date has not been set as of yet.

Culkin revealed that he instantly connected with his character Benji in the film as he read the script. The actor really enjoyed the comedic elements of the film and was convinced that he had to be in the film as Benji. He said,

“I remember saying, ‘Dammit, I think I have to do this movie.’ I think I spend a lot of energy avoiding work and going, ‘Oh good, I don’t like this,’ and I feel this relief and I can just go have a nice day. But I was like, ‘S–t I think I like this, and I think I can play this guy. I really like it.’ It’s rare that I read something and I’m laughing out loud.”

The film already looks like the first bonafide awards contender of the year, judging by the reviews. Culkin may be up for another round of awards consideration for Best Actor next year.
