The Mongols first arrived at the shores of Tsushima Island in 1274 and the game is set in this era of Japanese history. Ghost of Tsushima with a large open world that can be explored by the players either on foot or on horseback. Since Ghost of Tsushima became a commercial success, it is obvious that fans would want to see a sequel of the game.

Even though there haven’t been any official announcements regarding a sequel yet, it looks like the developers are working on one. This is based on a job listing from Sucker Punch Productions last year where the studio was hiring for a Technical Combat Designer who has played the samurai game and is aware of its gameplay mechanics.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 can explore the idea of natural calamity

While many are aware of the first Mongol invasion, the Central Asian tribe invaded Japan again in 1281. This invasion was considerably larger than the first one and the Mongols came with an estimated force of about 70,000 to 140,000 soldiers and a huge fleet force which makes it one of the biggest naval invasions in history.

The second war was fought for a couple of weeks, however, things were different this time as one devastating natural calamity ended the war, and changed the course of Japan’s history forever.

The second invasion by the Mongols on the Tsushima Island started on June 9. However, things turned for the worse for the invaders when the island was hit by a massive typhoon on August 14.

Since the Mongols were taken by surprise, and they had very little experience with the calamity, this resulted in their defeat which marked the end of the invasion. Although the typhoon resulted in the defeat of the enemies, this natural calamity also had a devastating effect on the people of the island.

If the developers plan to set Ghost of Tsushima 2 around this natural calamity, it could be an interesting turn of events for the game. Players will be put up against the challenge of not only battling the invaders but also fighting the forces of nature. Playing as Jin, players might even get the task of saving the people of the island from the typhoon which could be an interesting addition to the gameplay.

Moreover, the man vs nature angle with significantly make the battles in the game harder and more enjoyable. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Sucker Punch Productions actually go forward with this part of Japanese history for the sequel.
