Rise of the Ronin is an open-world single-player title that was announced back in September 2022. The game is set in late-19th-century Japan during Bakumatsu, the last years of the Edo period. The story of the game will see players play as a Ronin, and there are three factions, namely Sabuku, Tobakku, and Obei, and players will have to join one of them to help fight and save the country.

The latest gameplay overview trailer that debuted at State of Play shows the open world of Yokohama, the first port city that was open to foreign countries, which is described as being influenced by Japanese and overseas architecture. The trailer also reveals the Soulslike mechanics, which are seen in the game being compared with Ghost of Tsushima.

It showcases the character exploring the open world using traversal tools like a grappling rope to climb the rooftops and also gliding through the air using a device called “Avicula,” which is like a hand glider. There is also a grapple that players can use to pull enemies or get closer and knock them out. Players can also mount horses and explore the vast open world of the game.

There are timed parry attacks, stance selection, blocking, and more for players to do to defend themselves against enemies. The game also has a variety of weapon options for players, such as Japanese katanas and spears, as well as overseas weapons such as handguns and other ranged firearms. Players can also obtain devices from Igashichi, who was an inventor during that period in Japan.

Players can use obtained devices in fights against enemies, including a flamethrower-like weapon called the Fire Pipe. There are also a couple of bosses shown in the trailer that seem to grind players’ gears and are truly incredible. Rise of the Ronin is the perfect title that players can devote their time to while they wait for Ghost of Tsushima 2.

Player Choices Will Impact the Story in Rise of the Ronin

The choices players make during the story missions will affect how the story unfolds.

Fumihiko Yasuda, game producer and director at Team Ninja, revealed via PlayStation Blog that player choices during story missions will impact the world of Rise of the Ronin just like combat and traversal choices. Yasuda revealed that when the character chooses to help Igashichi fight a group of guards, this creates a bond between the characters and lets players know more him.

The choices during story missions will also help unlock new features, and players will be able to make such choices with characters like Ryoma Sakamoto, who was seen in the previous gameplay trailer. Sakamoto was also a real-life samurai.

Players can expect to see more such important figures in late-19th-century Japan. The choice of developing a relationship will affect the story, and there are also no disadvantages if players choose to interact with any other character than the one intended. This will allow players to have a more immersive gaming experience.
