Destiny 2, the free-to-play first-person shooter, occasionally collaborates with pop culture brands and brings exclusive items to the game. It has now collaborated with the newly released Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire film, bringing new cosmetics.
Players need to buy cosmetics for them to use in the game, and players fed up with the microtransaction aren’t okay with it. Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller shared that he has bought the crossover cosmetics bundle, drawing players’ criticism for supporting microtransactions.
Ghostbusters Fan Greg Miller Criticized for Promoting Microtransactions in Destiny
Greg Miller took to X/Twitter and shared a post appreciating Sony for bringing the Ghostbusters crossover into Destiny 2, saying that it shouldn’t stop doing this. He added that he does not even play the game anymore, but he has bought the cosmetics bundle. He further said that he would “do this for all games” that the brand collaborates with.
He also suggested that the brand should collaborate with Helldivers 2 and make a signature suit for Marvel’s Spider-Man with Insomniac Games.
While Miller may have said this as a fan of the franchise, it has offended the fans, and he has been criticized for supporting microtransactions in games. Players questioned Miller for buying content for the game he does not play anymore.
To whomever at Sony made this deal to get Ghostbusters into Destiny:
Don't stop.
I don't even play this game anymore, but I bought this stuff.
I will do this for all games you crossover with.

As can be expected, fans weren’t happy with this supportive stance:
You get your “I wanna look cool for my streamer overlord” token for the day. Just a little bit of everything.
Let us know you don’t play anymore, we all think you’re really cool.
Then of course you brought up xdefiant!
Just a masterpiece.

Other players piled on as well:
I think you kidding?? These type of microtransactions can stay here lol and stay clear of helldivers

Another player said that “blindly” buying cosmetics and supporting microtransactions is why “games are like they are today.” A player said that people like Miller are why the developers invest “more” in these things than they do in the story of the games. Players said that Sony owns both brands, and it is a “pure money grab” move from the company.
Fans Don’t Want Microtransactions in Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 fans did not hold back on clarifying to Miller that they don’t want to see microtransactions in Helldivers 2. Players said that these things can stay here and clear of Helldivers 2, with one fan adding, “I really hope Helldivers never gets anything like this.” Fans said that there is no need to put licensed content in Helldivers 2.
One player said that Arrowhead and Helldivers don’t “support the idea of ripping every penny possible from players.” Another fan added that crossovers in games “do a lazy job of adapting” and “break immersion.” They further said crossovers cost a minimum “quarter of the game’s price tag. You stay the hell away from Democracy.”

Players have said that things like this make games lose their identity, and all this should stay away from Helldivers 2. Microtransactions are a big issue in video games, with almost every other title focusing on them, and players have made it clear that they will not entertain them, breaking immersion in their favorite games.
