In fact, the sequel is coming out later next month in October, and gamers all across the globe are excitedly joining the hype by experiencing the first game in the series. The original game is an extremely fast-paced slasher game that resonated quite well with the gaming community, particularly the fans of first-person shooter titles.

Throw in some adrenaline-rush-inducing parkour mixed with brutal combat, and it also became a highly appealing game for players who like to complete levels as fast as they possibly can using the variety of skills they’ve learned in-game.

How Ghostrunner Became Such a Huge Commercial Success

Ghostrunner 2 is scheduled for release on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
Ghostrunner 2 is scheduled for release on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Ghostrunner consisted of gameplay that was highly satisfying for players, and one of the standout aspects of the game was its “trial-and-error” loop that quickly became an addiction for many. Because of this, the game’s community started to compete among one another to beat its various levels as fast as they possibly could, with the hopes of achieving the greatest runs of all time.

This sense of viral competition regarding speed runs skyrocketed the game’s popularity to unprecedented heights.

Since its 2020 launch, the game has preserved and increased its level of popularity, but more recently, millions of new players have decided to check the game out for themselves. Reaching over 2.5 million sales is not an easy feat, but somehow One More Level’s title achieved it in just three years. It also comes as a pleasant surprise because the game is not simple to play at all, providing various challenges and encouraging extensive experimentation.

The commercial success of the game matters because its difficulty levels actually scare a lot of players away. So, it is even more impressive that it managed to pull in so many people due to its uniquely positive aspects. You can check out One More Level’s official Steam community post regarding the milestone here.
