However, her future in the film/TV industry seems to be diminishing due to a controversy from the past. And the former MMA star isn’t backing down without a fight. With some help from X’s CEO, Elon Musk, Carano has taken the fight to Disney in an effort to win back her dignity and job. However, it seems like her former bosses at Disney are less than bothered.

Bob Iger’s One-Word Response to Gina Carano’s The Mandalorian Lawsuit

It did not seem to please Bob Iger to be asked about Gina Carano’s lawsuit. The Mandalorian actress is suing the company in an effort to force them to rehire her for more Star Wars projects. The lawsuit has the support of Elon Musk, who is funding it through X. CNBC questioned Iger’s opinion about Musk’s support of the lawsuit and any others that could be brought against his company. He stated quite bluntly (via THR) :

In case you missed it, Carano filed a wrongful termination and discrimination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm. She says she was fired from her job for expressing conservative opinions on social media. Musk posted an alleged Disney inclusion guidelines document and tweeted, “Disney sucks”, in reply to an announcement that the studio was eying for Ayo Edebiri to replace Johnny Depp in Pirates 6.

With her departure from The Mandalorian and her lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, the 41-year-old actress continues to receive a great deal of negative feedback on social media for her hateful remarks.

Why is Gina Carano Under Fire for Suing Disney and Lucasfilm?

Gina Carano has come under fire after sharing a contentious Instagram post that equated political division with the historical persecution of Jews. The aforementioned posts were posted on her Instagram account in February 2021, which reads: (via Variety

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Even though the post was quickly removed, it caused the actress a great deal of backlash, with the hashtag #FireGinaCarano becoming popular online. A statement from Lucasfilm was promptly made public that stated (via The Guardian):

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm, and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Shortly after, amid a social media controversy, Carano and UTA parted ways. In addition, she ridiculed masks worn during the pandemic and alluded to voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
