James Gunn has had a rollercoaster for a career. The director made a name for himself through some incredibly amazing and successful projects like, The Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Brightburn, being primarily responsible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s movie series. This did not last very long as after his work on The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, he was fired from Marvel because a series of truly concerning Tweets and comments by the director resurfaced, making Disney and Marvel Studios question their relationship with him.

After some time, however, things began to look up for Gunn when he started to work on projects for the DC Universe, very quickly rising through the ranks and becoming the co-CEO of the multi-billion dollar franchise with an extensive plan to save the dying superhero universe. He even went on to direct another Guardians Of The Galaxy film. Recent news, however, seems to put all this in danger as Gunn could lose it all.

James Gunn Gets Into Trouble Again For Past Comments and Tweets

It would seem that James Gunn‘s past is back to haunt him again as past tweets by him have completely infuriated fans. It would seem that more than ten years ago, the director went onto social media sites to express his opinions about two iterations of one of DC’s most important and adored superheroes, Batman. The director talked about his thoughts on Tim Burton’s Batman, starring Michael Keaton as well as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, starring Christian Bale in the role.

“The Tim Burton Batman is poorly written, the soundtrack is the worst work of everyone involved, and it is absolutely one of the most boring films ever. Not only that, but the reveal of the Joker as the killer of Bruce Wayne’s parents spits in the face of Batman’s origin, and is a nullification of the bottomless thirst for vengeance that necessarily drives Batman. It pretends not to be campy, but is completely so. And, on top of everything, the dark creature of the night can’t even move his fucking neck. Give me a fucking break. It’s a ridiculous, awful film. Burton’s Planet of the Apes is genius in comparison.” said Gunn in the Tweets.

In these Tweets, Gunn first talked about Buton’s films, calling them the worst work of everyone involved in the projects. He also mentioned that they were poorly written and had an awful soundtrack. he then went into the specifics, talking about how much he hated the plot twist of the Joker being responsible for the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents and added that this storyline makes a mockery of Batman’s origin and the vengeance that drives him. He also went on to talk about his dislike of Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker.

James Gunn Thinks That Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy Was Awful

While this opinion may not be as controversial, considering Tim Burton’s films are quite unique and not everyone’s cup of tea, things started to get a lot more serious when James Gunn went on to talk about Nolan’s Dark Knight films, which are easily considered to be the best portrayal of Batman to this date.

Gunn stated that he does not like Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, the two films that were out at the time out of the three in the trilogy, however, he thinks that they are still better than Burton’s portrayal of the film. He then added that even though he acknowledges that Nolan’s films were the first to explore the darker side of Batman, he still thinks that they are awful.

“I have no idea how you can think that the Burton Batman has more similarities with Moore or Miller’s Batman (and Joker) than Nolan’s does. And, listen, I have problems with both of Nolan’s films – I don’t think either one is classic, and I don’t even really think Batman Begins is good. But they’re far superior to the first Batman.” he added, “None of your defenses get by the fact that, despite being the first cinematic dark take on Batman (so what? Stallone’s Judge Dredd was the first dark take on Judge Dredd), the movie is awful.”

It is only natural that these comments have deeply infuriated fans of both these iterations, but fans of DC seem to be deeply offended by this, considering the fact that the future of the franchise is in Gunn’s hands. Many have started to demand that the director and co-CEO of DC be fired from his post, stating that he deserves nothing after the things he has said about one of the most beloved characters in all of comic book history.

It is also to be noted that Gunn has a right to have his own opinions. While his opinions are his own and are to be respected, they did not align so much with the fans, leading to him receiving backlash once again.
