In an interview with Variety, actor Glen Powell was asked what he thinks about the speculation that he will play Cyclops in the upcoming X-Men reboot. The question caught him off-guard, which evoked a confused look on the actor.

Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, ‘Dude, are you Cyclops?’ No, I’m not. Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.”

On Twitter, a fan shared his support for Powell as the iconic mutant whose ability is to shoot optic blasts from his eyes. Many fans also agreed with the original poster, which means they could also picture the actor shooting red energy beams.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight last year, Kevin Feige teased the arrival of the much-awaited X-Men movie. He also mentioned the newly released X-Men ’97, which debuted this month.

The X-Men are as solid and rich and great a concept and characters as exist. The return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really bring it back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent. And then in live action, people will see… perhaps soon.”

Since there isn’t much news regarding the X-Men reboot, it is only safe to assume that casting is still not underway, but that does not mean they should not consider Powell. Indeed, the actor has proven his acting flair through his recent projects.

Original Cyclops Actor Wants To Reprise His Role

While Powell admits being clueless that fans are campaigning for him as Cyclops, original Fox actor James Marsden is ready to pick up the role if Marvel Studios offers it. He told TheWrap:

Sure. Yeah, I mean, I’m all about material, and what the story is, and what the character would be doing, but it’s a character that I played, and it’s very close to my heart. And that family, I miss it dearly. We created a very special thing with the first couple of X-Men movies, and yeah, I’d love to explore that. But you know, [I] would want to see what that looks like first, I guess.”

Details about the upcoming revamped X-Men movie remain under wraps, and while Marvel Studios is still busy with the ongoing animated series X-Men ’97, the live-action version might still be far ahead.
