“McConaughey and I are now pals, but my first time meeting McConaughey was out at Linklater ( Powell’s Hit Man movie director, Richard Linklater)’s ranch.”

Giving a background detail of Linklater’s ‘great ranch‘ in Bastrop, Texas, he went to his ranch during Christmas break with his father, Glen Powell Sr.

While things were off to a great start between the actors, Glen Powell’s father was yet to meet the Oscar-winning actor. With Powell being a familiar face in the entertainment industry, he was easily recognizable but when it came to his dad, it didn’t ring any bells for McConaughey.

The Gold actor asked Powell’s father, “Now, now, who are you?”

He continued,

“And my dad goes, ‘Oh, I have a picture of you next to my bed. I look at my dad, and I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? Stop doing this, Dad. Whatever this is, stop!'”

While it was certainly weird at first, the Hit Man actor explained that his father had The Alcalde, a University of Texas magazine, which featured McConaughey on the cover page.

“So he goes, ‘No, no, no…I have the University of Texas magazine next to my bed.'”

That magazine eventually ended up in the two bonding, as the Anyone But You star revealed,

What an unexpected meeting! Powell also talks about his new movie, Hit Man which is set to premiere on May 15, the same day he’ll receive his Texas honor. In addition to starring in it, he has also produced and co-written the movie with the film director.

Hit Man will be released on Netflix on June 7.
