Glen Powell Claims Twisters is Not a Sequel to the 1996 Film
Discussions surrounding a sequel to the 1996 film, Twister, have been going around for years. Helen Hunt has also pitched plans for a direct sequel and even intended to write and direct it, however, the studio rejected her plans.
As for whether Twisters is a sequel to the 1996 film, Glen Powell has set the record straight in a conversation with Vogue. The actor, taking on the role of Tyler Owens alongside Edgar-Jones, told Vogue that the upcoming film is a “completely original story” and not a continuation or sequel to the original film.
“It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one,” he said before adding, “There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern-day.”
Screenwriter Mark L. Smith also highlighted the same as he claimed that Twisters is not a continuation of the original film, describing it as a “wild ride” with some good and fun characters.
Twisters is set to release on July 19, 2024.
Twister is available to rent/buy on Prime Video.
