Shadow of the Erdtree, the much-awaited Elden Ring DLC, will answer several burning questions fans have had since it was announced. From new weapons to new characters, it is going to be a brand-new experience for the players. Not only this, they will get to learn about the culture where Queen Marika, the ruler of the Lands Between, became a god.

All the roots of the game’s characters go back to Queen Marika in one way or another. She is the one causing Shattering, the war that follows after she breaks the Elden Ring with her hammer. In the game, Tarnished, the character players control, carries the journey to become the third Elden Lord after Godfrey and Radagon.

In his recent interview with the Japanese website Fumitso, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki shared a barrage of insights regarding the upcoming DLC. Though the interview was conducted in his native language, a Redditor dubbed, theangryfurlong, translated the entire interview for easy interpretation.

Fans might have noticed a lion-like dancing boss in the DLC’s trailer, which is associated with a culture born before the Erdtree. The FromSoftware boss said,

That lion dance, in some ways could be considered a very DLC-like boss. In fact, the shadow lands are where Marika became a god and where the Erdtree was born.

Of course there was a culture there before the Erdtree, and that lion dance comes from this culture.

Moreover, the game also introduced a new boss called Messmer The Impaler. As of now, the background of the new character isn’t very clear, but speculations are that he is Miquella in another form seeking revenge from the Tarnished for defeating his twin sister, Malenia. Both Malenia and Miquella are offsprings of Queen Marika and Radagon.

This Might Not Be The End of Elden Ring

In another recent interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that Miquella’s cocoon that players encounter in the game is a “point of entry to the Land of Shadow.” Mohg, also one of Marika’s children, captures Miquella while he is in his cocoon form to become his consort.

Also, Hidetaka Miyazaki says there are no further plans for more extensions for now. However, this is not to say that it has come to an end according to him, which could also be an indication of a potential sequel to the game.

Shadow of the Erdtree will release this June, and players may expect a lot from it given that it is the largest expansion FromSoftware has ever released for a game.
