When a ship sinks, is it the bad luck of the captain or a lack of skill that sinks it? Well, James Gunn is allegedly soon going to find out the answer as his plans for a united DCU continue to fall apart with each day that passes.
With reports of Amber Heard being a part of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the domestic projections of the movie are not looking that great. Fans offered their deepest sympathies to James Gunn who may soon find himself stranded on a sinking ship!
James Gunn Is The Captain of The DCU
And man the DCU seems to sink! With Jason Momoa attached to the role of Aquaman when James Wan released the 2018 movie, Gunn didn’t fire Momoa. Although he erased Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ben Affleck’s characters from his DCU, Momoa was the one that Gunn wanted around for a long time.
Hoping that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would put his newly built DCU on the map (especially with James Wan as the director), Gunn placed his hopes on the movie. It was later that the controversies surrounding Amber Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp created a storm of negativity around the movie.
Diminishing her role quite significantly in the movie, the DCU tried to stabilize itself once again but to no avail. With predictions of the domestic opening of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, people took to X (formerly Twitter) to pray for James Gunn and his well-being!

Despite the Amber Heard controversy, people allege that director James Wan tried his best to cover up the actress’ name in the movie. Stating that it was a bromance from the get-go, James Wan may have tried to cover something up!
James Wan Always Wanted Aquaman 2 To Be a Bromance
Although it can never be confirmed if James Wan made the best out of the situation as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will focus more on the story of Arthur Curry and his brother Orm. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, James Wan stated that Aquaman 2 was always going to be a bromance film!
“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
With Jason Momoa as the lead alongside James Gunn as the co-head of the DC Studios, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for a release date of 22nd December 2023 in theaters across the world against a heavy budget of $205 million!
