We finally have news about the long-awaited GTA 6, the game has already been officially confirmed by Rockstar and now we just have to wait for the first trailer that will arrive with the developer’s 25th anniversary, next month.
Since the launch of GTA 5 in 2013, fans have been speculating about what the sixth project in the franchise could be like, and one of the biggest focuses of these false rumors, or those with a grain of truth, is about the identity of the protagonists. We’ve heard rumors ranging from a return to Vice City to the fact that one of the characters would be a woman, which would bring something new to the games and hate to the hearts of childish gamers.
The Protagonists of GTA 6 Are Still Uncertain, Who Will They Be?
Before we get into the rumors, we can be sure that whoever it is, there will be characters deeply rooted in the criminal underworld, due to the thematic nature of the series. As in any other major pop culture project, rumors take the place of news in search of popularity, hunting for clicks, invented rumors pretending to know, and revealing information that reaches the maximum radar of fans who call themselves “traditional”.
Considering that nowadays, society is finally advancing in thinking and bringing diversity to its media, this is something that can be reflected in the protagonists of GTA 6. However, unfortunately, there are still those who call themselves “fans” and have a “traditional way of thinking”, but they only value the delay in society’s progress and attack the minorities behind these political masks. Thus, some media that hunt these people’s audiences invent rumors that would infuriate them such as characters that are female, gay, trans, and so on.
Are these our GTA 6 protagonists?
This is because Lucia would be a Latina woman, and moving away from the problem players, Lucia’s ethnicity could also fill the story with gangs from Latin America, already very present in the United States, bringing another scenario in addition to African-Americans, rednecks, and the Italian mafia among many others already included in the universe. Jason represents a ‘safer’ more common trend for the franchise, with the standard white male being prevalent throughout since the inception of the series.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a protagonist duo, as it seems will be the case, could bring to GTA 6 the much rumored co-op mechanic where more than one player could be adventuring across the map at the same time with their partner controlling the other character. This would be an interesting twist if Rockstar takes on the responsibility of developing something like this with the level of care they have with all their huge games.
For now, what we have are these rumors, the fateful leak last year, and the expectation that finally in December we can watch the game’s first trailer and see what was true, what was false, and what we can expect from this work so awaited by fans.
