The GTA series has always been satirical, with many recognised brands, politicians and celebrities all facing parody and satire at some point over the franchise’s 26-year history. The settings of various GTA games are even parodies of well-known US cities. Both Los Santos and Vice City have made fun of the popular culture in Los Angeles and Miami respectively in the past. However, it appears that Joe Rogan may be introduced into GTA 6 wholesale without being altered or parodied in any way.

According to an anonymous source for the website Audioviser GTA 6 will incorporate Joe Rogan into the game via his podcast the  “Joe Rogan Experience”. Although details are still vague, the source believes that players will be able to tune into a JRE radio station while driving vehicles. Due to the lengthy nature of the podcast, it’s more than likely that Rockstar will broadcast clips that will be relevant to the game’s setting rather than full episodes.

Although it may surprise some players to see a real-life celebrity accurately represented in a GTA game, Joe Rogan is not the first famous face to appear, mostly unaltered in the series. In 2021 GTA Online released the free DLC “The Contract” featuring Rapper and producer Dr. Dre. In the mission, players are contracted by Dr. Dre to help get back his phone featuring three unreleased songs.

While the Dre that appears in GTA Online is a tad bit more violent than his real-life counterpart his appearance and voice are unchanged. The fact that Rockstar licensed his face and likeness to feature in the game shows that they may be planning more celebrity cameos in the future.

So far there has been mixed fan reaction to the news. While some believe that including real-life celebrities and programmes in GTA 6 is a step in the right direction for realism, others believe that a podcast has no place in a GTA game. Whether you think it’s a good idea or not, this latest rumour proves that GTA 6 is already promising to have some more immersive features.
