Indiana Jones 5 is supposedly going to be Harrison Ford’s last Indy film. The actor expressed at the Cannes Film Festival that he wants to take a break from the action-adventure franchise. It seems like it’s not because he is tired of the franchise, but because of his age.

For an 80-year-old, Ford looks agile and fit. But looks can be deceiving. Also, acting isn’t easy, especially in an action movie. This combined with Ford’s age meant that the actor ended up suffering a grievous injury on the sets of  Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Deadline reported in 2021 that Harrison Ford was injured during the rehearsal of a fight scene on the sets of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It wasn’t revealed what exactly he suffered, but it was reported that it involved his shoulder. In response, director James Mangold didn’t stop the shooting. Instead, he just shot around the actor’s scenes.

Here’s what the site reported:

“In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

When this news circulated on social media platforms, many stated that Ford shouldn’t have been brought back to play Indiana Jones due to his old age. Others thought that he should have been recast while some said that the franchise should have continued with another lead star with Ford only appearing in a cameo. Nothing of that sort ultimately happened.

Harrison Ford’s current age is a major factor in his injury on the sets of Indiana Jones 5, but this is far from the first time he has been bruised on the sets of the franchise. Reportedly, he tore his ACL while shooting 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. That’s not all. He bruised his ribs during the filming as well.

While shooting 1984’s Temple of Doom, the actor suffered from a herniated disc because of all the elephant riding he had to do. So Ford has been injured a total of three times in the 5 Indy films. But the most publicly known and severe injury he suffered was on the sets of a Star Wars film.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ford’s leg was crushed by a hydraulic door. It happened while he was shooting on the Millennium Falcon spaceship sets. Overall, the actor has had his fair share of on-set accidents. But after the recent premiere of Indiana Jones 5 at the Cannes Film Festival, it looks like he has recovered from his most recent one.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released on 30 June 2023.
