The Making of John Wick 4: Behind the Scenes

In a recent featurette released by Lionsgate Films, viewers are treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the making of John Wick 4. The video showcases Keanu Reeves performing an array of stunts and fight scenes, including an impressive car chase sequence around the Arc De Triomphe in Paris.

According to stunt coordinator Scott Rogers, Reeves insisted on doing his own driving for the scene and proved to be a natural behind the wheel.

Rogers goes on to explain that the car used for the sequence was intentionally damaged, with no doors or windshields, making it a challenging vehicle to handle. Despite the difficult conditions, Reeves handled the car with ease, prompting Rogers to say

“He actually started getting too good in the car.”

The actor trained for three months to prepare for filming. And as he told Total Film Magazine in January, it all paid off because the upcoming installment is the most action-packed yet.

“John Wick: Chapter 4 was the hardest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far. We took the car-driving to the next level, which I really enjoy. There’s 180s, forward-into-reverse 180s, reverse into-forward 270s, drifting… So it was really fun to get a chance to learn those skills, and to play.”

Reeves had to perform a variety of maneuvers, including slamming the car into reverse, executing a 180-degree turn, reloading his weapons, and shooting them in tandem.

Keanu Reeves: The Action Hero

Keanu Reeves has long been known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, and his role as John Wick has allowed him to further showcase his skills. In addition to his driving abilities, Reeves is also an accomplished martial artist, having studied various disciplines over the years. He brings this expertise to his performances as John Wick, creating some of the most memorable fight scenes in recent memory.

It’s not just Keanu Reeves’ physical abilities that make him such a compelling action hero, however. His portrayal of John Wick is marked by a quiet intensity and a sense of gravitas that elevates the character beyond the typical Hollywood action star. Reeves has often spoken about the importance of authenticity in his performances, and it’s this commitment to realism that makes John Wick such a compelling and believable character.
