Actor Matthew Perry, who is well-known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom Friends, unexpectedly passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. His death was quite shocking for his fans, friends and family members. In fact, Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, thinks that the actor’s death was “not fair.”
Morrison explained that Perry’s life was changing before his death as he was really close to his mother and was doing much better in terms of his addiction. However, to not have been able to have a “third act” in his life was quite unfair for Perry, as per Morrison. The actor suffered from severe addictions to drugs and alcohol but in recent years, had managed to curb them.
Matthew Perry’s stepdad thinks the actor’s death was “not fair“
Actor Matthew Perry‘s stepfather, Keith Morrison, recently appeared on NBC’s Today and talked about the actor’s sudden demise. Morrison explained that Perry’s death had a huge impact on his mother and it was “not fair” that the actor didn’t get to live his third act of life,
“It is not easy, especially for his mom. Toward the end of his life, they were closer than I have seen him for decades and texting each other constantly – he hadn’t said that for a long time. He didn’t get to have his third act, and that’s not fair. As he said himself, if I suddenly die, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.”
Matthew Perry became a worldwide sensation for his work as Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom Friends (1994-2004). The actor was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54.

Further in the interview, Morrison explained that Perry was the center of attention everywhere he went and his “echo” can still be heard,
“He was always the center of attention everywhere he went. That kind of personality, he was goofy. He was funny. But even if he didn’t say a word, he was the center of attention. So, yes, I mean, if it’s gone, but you still feel the echo of it everywhere.”
Perry revealed in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing that he became an alcoholic by the age of 14. Between 1995 and 2005, the actor suffered from severe addictions to drugs and alcohol and his Friends co-stars even made efforts to help him, but nothing worked. Perry had a hard time curbing his addiction but made significant changes to his lifestyle in the years before his death.
