IGN asked gamers which games released so far this year they think are the best and are “frontrunners” for the Game of the Year award, and the response from the majority of the fans has been in favor of Arrowhead Studios Helldivers 2, DD2, and Pocketpair’s crafting survival title.

Players said that although it is very early to assume that there are many great games with the potential to be GOTY, these three titles have been the most fun and successful. A player said that “Helldivers 2 has to be in the conversation for Game of the Year,” adding that they have also enjoyed playing Enshrouded.

One player said that Palworld is the frontrunner for them till now, and DD2 has been “great so far.” They added that “the rear is Helldivers 2 [and[ can’t say anything else is worthy of GOTY up to now.” This seems fair, as the mentioned games have been smash hits and have received mostly positive ratings from players and critics.

Helldivers 2 has garnered a large community, with players joining each day, and has sold over 8 million copies as of March 15. The game became the best PC release from PlayStation.

Pocketpair’s game also broke several records upon release, both in terms of sales and player numbers. DD2 has become the best Capcom release and has been amassing more players despite the controversy around the microtransactions.

Several players said that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has to be the Game of the Year, with one player adding that the game’s “world design is great” and everything in the game is so stimulating that players spend no “less than 100 hours.” They also said that the game has not received any poor ratings from the critics.

Some players also added that Infinite Wealth deserves a spot in the race for the coveted award and said Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was “a fairly solid title too.” Players did not forget to mention Persona 3 Reload, saying that it deserves to be up on the list too.
