Helldivers 2 has been having quite an impact since its release, as the game sold over a million copies within 3 days of its release. It’s safe to say that the game is in safe hands, as it is soaring in popularity on Steam, second only to Palworld.
The game has two main sections of antagonists: the bug-like Terminids and the robotic Automatons. Most of the missions and objectives are centered around the Terminids, which quite unsurprisingly has led to the rise in viewership of one cult classic sci-fi movie – Starship Troopers.
Starship Troopers is a 1997-released movie that is based on a novel of the same name by Robert A. Heinlein.
Helldivers 2 and Starship Troopers Share the Same Bug Problem
In the Starship Troopers franchise, humanity is plagued by the attacks of the Arachnids, who are bug-like creatures that have launched attacks on Earth. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 features Terminids as one of the primary enemy factions. This has led to several comparisons between the two franchises.
So it is of no surprise that a user on X posted a statistic that showed a significant rise in the viewership of Starship Troopers ever since the release of Helldivers 2. The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios reposted the same with the caption, “This is incredible!“.

Released more than 26 years ago, Starship Troopers saw a resurgence in viewership because of the similar bug problems that the franchise shares with Helldivers 2. After a week of the game being released, Starship Troopers climbed to rank 45th in viewership, all the way from 109th.
Helldivers 2 Is Making Headlines for All the Right Reasons
Apart from leaving the developers completely flummoxed with its success, Helldivers 2 has ushered in a resurgence of hatred against bugs. First started by Starship Troopers in 1997, Helldivers 2 successfully completed the cycle, 26 years later.
The player interaction has climbed to a peak of 409,367 concurrent players, and the figure is set to rise. It is already the biggest-ever PlayStation release on PC surpassing a lot of popular franchises. The game has already surpassed the likes of GTA V, Destiny 2, Starfield, etc.
So far there is no sign of slowing down on the part of Helldivers 2. And by the looks of it, as more players start playing the game, the viewership of Starship Troopers is also going to increase.
