Helldivers 2 has been out for about three months and in that time, we have seen plenty of new and interesting content, from mission types, weapons, and stratagems.

The community achieved a major milestone when they defeated the Automaton army and had their hopes swiftly dashed a few days later when they returned. Helldivers 2 is still going strong and has daily player counts in the hundreds of thousands and the speculations of crossovers are all around.

We’re Yet to See Confirmation of Franchise Crossovers

Crossovers in Helldivers 2 would make the game a much more strong contender for GOTY.

There is one thing though that we have not yet seen added to the game that would surely boost the popularity of the game even further, franchise crossovers. In an interview with CGM, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt was asked about the possibility of guest characters from the game’s major inspirations making appearances.

Pilestedt doesn’t outright say anything but hinted that it could happen saying that “it’s something we’re always discussing.” The studio bringing in some guest voice actors would be wonderful, it has been suggested that Casper Van Dien, who played Starship Troopers Johnny Rico, should appear in the game.

Van Dien himself jokingly suggested a crossover movie on Twitter/X when talking to Pilestedt. Another obvious choice to me is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is no stranger to video game cameos, having appeared in the likes of Mortal Kombat, reprising his role as The Terminator. Getting him to voice a Helldiver would be a lot of fun and hearing some iconic Arnie grunts and yells as we run from bugs and bots would be hilarious.

Another fun voice cameo they could aim for is Sigourney Weaver, famous for the Alien franchise, would be great to get one of the original alien bug killers in on the action. Weaver has also done videogame voice work before, appearing in 2014’s Alien Isolation through some DLC missions.

Crossovers Could Make or Break Helldivers 2

Arrowhead needs to be smart when choosing franchises for crossovers.
Arrowhead needs to be smart when choosing franchises for crossovers.

Helldivers 2 has often been compared to Deep Rock Galactic a mining game where players take control of a team of dwarves mining asteroids for rare metals and fighting off swarms of large space bugs.

It’s the swarms of space bugs and the community spirit that is most similar to Helldivers 2 and that which would be ripe for crossover material, just imagine a mission where players get to go down to an asteroid to assist a team of dwarves trying to make it out alive.

The largest concern when it comes to crossovers is that they can potentially dilute the brand, we’ve seen Call of Duty slowly lose its brand identity to it, with the likes of King Kong and characters from The Boys appearing as playable characters and leading many to question why?

So the hope for Helldivers 2 would be some well-made missions inspired by the series crossing over and a few armors at most, and only with franchises where it actually makes the most sense.

What do you think? Do you have any specific crossovers you would like to see in Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments!
