Helldivers 2 has been one of the most successful games in recent months. But at the same time, it has also been a bag full of issues since day one of release. First login issues due to overload on the servers, followed by countless gameplay errors and patches, then the terror of automatons in the game.

Just when Helldivers were attempting to get rid of the automatons, the community was now faced with another newly discovered item in the game. This even led the Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead to issue a caution warning to the players to “avoid” a “rogue item” in the ship management store.

New Rogue Item in Helldivers 2?

Recently, a new entry in the Ship Module section of the Ship Management terminal caught the attention of Helldivers 2 players. This new “rogue item” is being called Catalog Expansion. This new Catalog Expansion is an upgrade that is seen to be tied to the bridge of the player’s ship.

Its description says it introduces “new Stratagem permits added to the ship management terminal for purchase.” It has left the fans wondering since the upgrade does not seem to actually exist. In other words, it is seen in the game, however, so far no one has reportedly purchased it. Besides, there are no reports of players noticing any other changes.

Additionally, the text for its upgrade effect is totally blank. In fact, it simply auto-fills from the previous upgrade that the player may have selected. Besides, it also does not seem to list any affected Stratagems either. Thus it is inoperative currently. However, its existence raises the speculation of a possible remnant of cut content, a sign of an upcoming patch, a simple bug, or maybe a deliberate teaser from the devs.

What Do Developers Say About The Catalog Expansion?

The news of the presence of this new item reached the doors of the developers too, and Helldivers 2 community manager Baskinator, recently addressed this catalog expansion outlier via a post on the game’s official Discord channel.

Her full message reads:

“The Ministry of Truth has confirmation that a rogue item called the ‘Catalog expansion’ is temporarily visible in the Ship Management menu and, in accordance with regulations, we instruct all Helldivers to avoid this rogue item until further notice. The Ministry of Truth cannot confirm the reliability or safety of this item, nor can they confirm its origin.”

Thus going by Baskinator’s words even the devs are unaware of what it is as they advise players to avoid it. A player asked Baskinator what might happen if instead of avoiding it, the players hypothetically ran screaming at the Catalog Expansion upgrade.

To this, she says, “I can’t say what the Ministry would do to Helldivers who don’t follow instructions,” She implied that players should act at their own risk although avoiding it is advisable. Given that the developers are also unaware of the new item, it does seem like it may be an unintended entry that has appeared as a consequence of a recent patch. And especially since it is only “temporarily” visible, it is safe to rule it out as an ordinary bug.
