Illuminates may have arrived in Helldivers 2

There are countless discussions happening on the internet over the past few days about the probable presence of Illuminates in Helldivers 2. Members of the community have been reporting instances of catching a glimpse of a blue laser in the sky on social media. This laser is also reportedly knocking players down.

A user on Reddit named, ‘Dye335’ shared that a laser knocked them to around 60% HP.

They wrote,

“It must have been an Illuminate Sniper just like the first game, and it (the sniper) must’ve teleported out immediately after the shot. I wish I was screen recording at the time or had anything like that setup.”

Although the Redditor was unable to get footage, others managed to capture the sightings and shared it on social media.

Interestingly, the game also has an in-game news broadcast on the ship that talks about “rumors of Illuminate sightings.”

Discussions about the possible coming of Illuminates are actively happening and spreading on the internet. The discussions have also caught the attention of Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt. The CEO as well as other experts have reviewed the footage surfacing.

Pilestedt subtly denied any existence of the mysteriously appearing blue beams via a tweet. He wrote, “Blue beams aren’t real, it can’t hurt you.” Although the maker denies it, one cannot overlook the fact that these Illuminate sightings have been reported by players for weeks now. Even if the blue beam is not a sign of Illuminate, it could possibly be a new threat arriving in the game sooner or later.

Who are the Illuminates?

For the unaware, The Illumintes were one of the three major enemy factions in the first installment of Helldivers. It is an ancient and technologically advanced alien civilization who are on a mission to destroy Super Earth and take control of the human population.

The Illuminates possess psychic teleportation abilities with tentacled faces. This makes them both challenging to fight and gruesome to look at. Some leaders of Illuminates are seen wearing celestial robes that further showcase their religious zealotry, which rivals the false prophets of Halo’s Covenant.

Interestingly, according to the sequel’s director and the Ministry of Truth’s propaganda machine, the Illuminate group was thoroughly squashed, never to return. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen if the Illuminates really arrive in the game or not. If at all it happens, it will not be too surprising to see them given now that the appearances of the faction have already surfaced.
