Helldivers 2 is in a sticky situation where the loyal gaming community is slowly turning its back on the game. However, it is never too late to turn those frowns upside down with a little dose of creative ideas and collaboration with other video game franchises with a strong appeal.
Director Johan Pilestedt is a very outgoing person who is easy to relate to. Despite working in a demanding industry, the director takes the time to connect with the gaming community through social media where occasional ideas are generated that could be manifested into reality.

Recent controversies affected the company which also had a hand in the massive decline in quality that affected the developers and their work. The gaming community fears the worst and that the game’s successful run has come to an end but Pilestedt is optimistic that this will all be a minor setback and is open to talk about the game’s future.
I mean, a Close Combat X Helldivers would be a dream. Hardcore tactical milsim set in HD universe, flanking, stratagems, suppressive fire, cover and LOS. Could be called "SEAF".

The director has always been fascinated with the success of other fellow indie game developers and has expressed interest in tackling the genre within the franchise. Hooded Horse was fortunate to have Shams Jorjani on board and now he is ready to move on to take on the role of the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios which could make it easier to conduct crossovers with Close Combat which is a game that requires strategizing and planning.
The gaming community is losing interest in the live service game and hosting crossovers or building a new game set in the same universe but with a different gameplay structure could salvage the franchise. Pilestedt is open to suggestions and these ideas could shape the future of Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 Could Be Influenced by the Success of Fellow Indie Titles
The studio had come up with a new roadmap that was more ambitious than previously intended and teased that Helldivers 2 is the starting point of an expanding universe. Spinoff titles with different gameplay are now up for grabs and could appeal to a new audience.
Pilestedt didn’t let the controversies and criticisms affect his creative vision and is fully committed to giving the gaming community the best live service experience possible. It wouldn’t be the first time the director hinted at a dream project that involves a new game. Star Fox was a favorite of his and is open to developing a spinoff set in the same continuity.
However, Pilestedt is not a fan of the direction of other live service games like Call of Duty and Fortnite and would only allow a crossover if it fits the tone of his game and does not contradict the realism.
There is still hope for Arrowhead Studios to save the game from public scrutiny and it is not a bad idea to start thinking outside the box and revitalize the interest of the community in the game.
