Helldivers 2 is getting back on track after the embarrassing fiasco caused by Sony, and a first look at a new enemy type will have players shaking down their boots. The Illuminate is the upcoming threat to be added by Arrowhead, and it’s pure nightmare fuel.
The design of the hostile extraterrestrial is disturbing and will most likely be a pain to deal with in the field. Players are about to fight for their lives if they ever come across these vile beings, and one can only imagine their destructive capabilities.
The Illuminate Is Coming to Helldivers 2
It wasn’t long ago when the game director teased the imminent arrival of new enemy types to improve the game’s variety. Players have grown to be confident after facing down countless enemies in the game and are prepared to take on something new. The Illuminate looks terrifying, and if it looks this bad from the outside, only time will tell how powerful it is in the middle of a firefight.
A live-service game needs to have constant changes and improvements to spice up the gameplay and the overall player experience. This new threat could pose a major problem, or it could be another walk in the park for experienced players. Some members of the gaming community are quite creative and have suggested new mission types involving the Terminid, and they will surely come up with something related to the Illuminate down the line.
Arrowhead is doing everything it can to up the ante and elevate the stakes for the community, including the new enemy variety. Players are up for the challenge and are even calling out the omnipotent game master, Joel, to take off the gloves and go ballistic by throwing the whole kitchen sink of enemies at them.
Helldivers 2 Might Have More Enemy Types
The increase in enemy variety will give players enough content to chew on as they figure out different ways to best deal with them. Some players have reached out to Johan Pilestedt and discussed certain issues, like how several firearms were nerfed for the sake of balance, but the developers dialed it up to eleven and promised to take a different approach.
The Illuminate could be just the beginning; more enemy types could come in the foreseeable future and could change up the gameplay in ways unimaginable. Players will have to use every tool in their loadout, rely on their allies, and use some tactical maneuvers like hip fire or blind firing as they evade the attacks of the Illuminate and deal damage while on the move.
It is easy to make fun of the looks or design of a new creature; appearances can be deceiving. The Illuminate may look like a typical alien, but there’s no telling what it can do. Content like this is what keeps live-service games interesting and relevant, and the players hope they will not be a rehash of older enemy types under the guise of new skins.
