Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been confirmed for a September 2024 release by developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment. The game will be available across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with pre-order bonuses including an “Ultramarine Inspired skin set” featuring unique weapon and armor customizations.

While the release date is a welcome announcement, gameplay details have been tightly guarded so far. However, based on the four trailers released to date, some key information can be gleaned. The trailers showcase the game’s atmosphere and characters, hinting at a return to the kinetic, violent combat that defined the first game.

Players will once again take control of Lt. Titus, a genetically enhanced Space Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter. This time, however, Titus faces a new threat – the Tyrannids, a ravenous race of insectoid aliens with a hunger for galactic domination. It may sound suspiciously similar to a certain Helldivers 2 enemy faction, but we can confirm there’s no foul play here.

The trailers also reveal some of the weapons at Titus’ disposal. Players can expect a familiar arsenal, including the iconic bolter rifle, the versatile plasma gun, and the devastating power sword.

Close-quarters combat also appears to have been given a greater emphasis, with the trailers showing Titus unleashing the fury of his chainsword upon the Tyrannid hordes.

As far as the story goes, there isn’t much to go on either, but the trailers suggest that Space Marine 2 will pick up after the events of the first game. Titus, now sporting a new suit of Mark X Power Armor, appears to be grappling with the aftermath of past accusations of dissent by Inquisitor Thrax.

It’s also evident that Titus has undergone the Rubicon Primaris, a surgery that enhances a Space Marine’s physical capabilities, due to him being faster, more muscular, and potential weapon on the battlefield. It all sounds amazing, and come May 23, Saber will talk more about the game at the Warhammer Skulls event.
