Variety claims HBO has greenlit a prequel to House of the Dragon detailing Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros’s six kingdoms. As the first of the Targaryen kings to rule the Seven Kingdoms, Aegon has a fascinating and eventful history that would make a great TV show. Fans have been speculating about who would play Aegon in the series, and many have suggested Henry Cavill.

If HBO makes a Game of Thrones series focusing on Aegon Targaryen's conquest, they need Henry Cavill.

Cavill has experience with leading roles, having played Superman in the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher on Netflix. In addition to the spy thriller Argylle and the Warhammer 40,000 series for Amazon Prime Video, he will soon be seen in additional planned projects.
Many viewers, though, continue to think that Cavill is the best actor for the part of Aegon Targaryen. His experience in fantasy and action roles would serve him well in the Game of Thrones universe, and his chiseled looks, authoritative presence, and acting talent make him a logical fit for the role.

Despite the support from fans, it appears that Cavill’s schedule may preclude him from playing the part. Already committed to numerous other projects, including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and other Sherlock Holmes films for Netflix, the actor has also just completed work on several other projects.
The Future of the Aegon Targaryen Series
So, what does this portend for the future of the Aegon Targaryen series? The project is still in its infancy, but if Cavill cannot commit, HBO will likely need to cast another actor in the starring role. Without Cavill’s star power, the series may still be successful, and plenty of other excellent performers could bring Aegon Targaryen to life.
There is, of course, the issue of whether or not the Aegon Targaryen series will ever be written. Even if it turns out that HBO is, producing the show, the network may ultimately opt to go in a different direction.
Whoever ends up playing Aegon Targaryen, the next prequel series will be one of the most anticipated shows for the foreseeable future. With the tremendous success of Game of Thrones still fresh in viewers’ minds, the idea of delving even further into the world of Westeros is guaranteed to delight audiences everywhere.
