Henry Cavill worked for the first time with Matthew Vaughn back in 2007 in the fantasy adventure movie, Stardust and made a huge impact on the movie for his portrayal of Humphrey. However, his role in the movie was a brief one, and even his appearance was so different that even if people watched Stardust today, not everyone would be able to recognize the Man of Steel actor.
Henry Cavill and Matthew Vaughn recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and Josh Horowitz asked the director why he always keeps getting Cavill weird haircuts for his movies. Vaughn said,
“When you’re blessed with this face, it gives you poetic license to have a little bit more fun with it.”
Henry Cavill further weighed on the topic and revealed that Vaughn was the first person to get him a mustache for a role as well and went on to appreciate the director. He said,
“I suppose actually one of the great things is that Matthew allows me to be characters which a lot of people don’t. They want me to be a certain thing and so I’m really enjoying acting more now and being a bit more loose and enjoying playing something left of stoic.”
Matthew Vaughn further opened up about how the first audition of Cavill went with him for the role of Humphrey.

I had no doubt.”
