The point where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was left behind in Spider-Man: No Way Home, opens up endless ways for the fate of the friendly neighborhood hero to unfold. And thus, now, the internet is divided. While some fans are eager to see Peter Parker reunite with his old pals MJ and Ned, many also yearn for Holland’s Spider-Man to move on and start a new life.
As discussions about a fourth installment dominate the internet and rumors circulate regarding the movie reportedly being at the early stages of production, only time will reveal what lies ahead, leaving fans hopeful.
Zendaya’s Potential MJ Arc in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4
After teaming up with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man to save the universe in the most heroic and iconic way possible, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man orchestrated a spell with Doctor Strange to erase everyone’s memory of him, including Zendaya’s MJ, to safeguard the Multiverse.
And now, while a Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 4 and Zendaya’s return remain officially unconfirmed, the film’s script hints at potential developments for the superhero’s next chapter in life.
As per Deadline, in the final script of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter drops by MJ’s cafe job, hoping to jog her memory about their past together or perhaps just to check on her. But instead of revealing his real identity, he decides to prioritize MJ and Ned’s future and safety.
Interestingly, the script drops subtle hints all over that MJ still might remember him, like moments of “deja vu” and a sense of familiarity when she’s around Peter as stated on pages 178, and 179 of the script respectively. These clues, along with her wearing the Black Dahlia necklace, suggest she hasn’t entirely forgotten Peter despite Doctor Strange’s spell.
Recent reports also suggest Zendaya’s continued involvement in future Spider-Man projects. Moreover, they also state that she is prioritizing Spider-Man over Euphoria. This could potentially mean her character could have a bigger part than audiences might think.
Could the MCU Introduce Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn in the MCU?
But many online believe it would be best for both Peter Parker and Spider-Man to embrace a fresh start and move on from their past lives. Reports from The Cosmic Circus also suggest that the fourth movie might lead towards this aspect, hinting that “Peter Parker will take a back seat and continue to fade from existence slowly.”
So what does that mean? Could this imply that the movie might introduce a new love interest and challenges for Peter Parker in his life? Could this new love interest potentially be Gwen Stacy? And could the new best friend be Harry Osborn? Alternatively, could the concept of losing everything he ever loved serve as a starting arc for Bully Holland? To be honest, there are endless possibilities and directions the story could take.
But people on the internet still believe that Parker should leave his old life behind for the sake of the greater good. Here are some fan reactions and discussions that reflect this sentiment (Via X)
Her arc is over. She should understand that and focus on Euphoria.
No need for her to be so committed. https://t.co/0SsalRbS8t

As much of a Zendaya fan as I am, I wish her character of MJ wasn't in Spider-Man 4.
Him letting MJ and Ned go was supposed to be a heroic act in putting their needs before his. Now that Peter Parker is no more, this could be the time for a new set of characters to come to… pic.twitter.com/Qm9JwY6avn

While the way forward remains a mystery, Tom Holland has previously stated that he won’t return for any further movies if he believes it doesn’t serve the character. However, rumors and reports of the team reuniting for one last ride, or perhaps more, have yet to be confirmed.
