Barbra Streisand is one of the rare individuals who has excelled in every field of the creative arts by being a member of the EGOT community. Despite being loved by so many celebrities and fans around the world, she has some well-known people that she does not see eye to eye with. In 2020, Streisand wrote an extended column for a news outlet where she bashed the then-US President Donald Trump and cited several reasons why he must be put out of office.
Barbra Streisand Could Not Stand Donald Trump and His Ignorant Attitude
Barbra Streisand has been a celebrated figure in the world of entertainment for so many years. She has been a significant part of people’s lives through her celebrated music and movies. Additionally, she also frequently voices her socio-political concerns in the US and she most memorably wrote a scathing column against former US President Donald Trump.
Trump served as President from 2017 to the beginning of 2021 and his presidential rule has been infamously divisive among US citizens. In an extended column written in Variety, Streisand had harsh words about Trump’s ignorant actions and how he’s worsened the socio-political climate in the country.
In the column, Streisand accused Trump of firing the director of the National Intelligence Agency to prevent the truth about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election to come out. She criticized his boastful and ignorant attitude and how he brought down the integrity and security of the nation by abandoning several key projects. She wrote,
“Since 2016, we’ve been dragged down into the mud of Trump’s swamp. He has demolished our standing in the world with his laughable boasts and breathtaking ignorance. He has put the security of this country, and our planet, in a precarious position by abandoning the Paris climate accord and the Iran nuclear deal. He’s a one-man weapon of mass destruction … so reckless that he almost started a war.”
Streisand has continued to bash Trump and his hubris even after losing his presidency. In 2022, she called him delusional and unfit for Presidency. Streisand clearly hates what Trump represents and is one of the people that she does not want to be associated with.
Barbra Streisand Gives Heartfelt Lifetime Achievement Award Speech
Barbra Streisand was honored at the 2024 SAG Awards and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper presented her the award and audiences gave a standing ovation when she came on stage. Streisand gave a heartfelt speech about how she has always wanted to become an actress since she was a child.
In her speech, she remembered the time when she saw 1955’s Guys and Dolls and being mesmerized by everything she was seeing on screen. She also revealed that Marlon Brando was her cinematic crush and is happy that she went against her mother’s wishes to pursue acting. She said, (via YouTube)
“I remember dreaming of being an actress as a teenager sitting in my bed in Brooklyn with a pint of coffee ice cream and a movie magazine. And then one Saturday, I vividly remember going to the Loew’s theater and buying a 25-cent ticket and walking into the middle of Guys and Dolls, and oh my God – everything was so beautiful up on that screen
And then I saw the most beautiful actor, Marlon Brando. It was my first crush. I wanted to be in the movies even though I knew I didn’t look like the other women on screen. My mother said you better learn to type, but I didn’t listen, and somehow, some way – thank God, it all came true.”
Everyone was teary-eyed as they witnessed an icon being celebrated at the awards event for actors celebrating other actors. It was a well-deserved award and Streisand was clearly overwhelmed and grateful that her fellow actors bestowed her the prestigious award.
