Upon his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the actor predicted that he might not win the Oscar for American Fiction and he’s okay with it. He said,

“Robert Downey Jr. is going to win, and he’s incredibly deserving. He’s an incredible actor. You should give him love. And the fact that I get a chance to be nominated along with him and Mr. Robert De Niro and Ryan Gosling and Mark Ruffalo, I’m just happy to be in the room.”

Downey did end up winning the Academy Award for his brilliant performance. But what caught the attention of the audience was Sterling K. Brown holding and admiring Cord Jefferson’s award. Jefferson won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for American Fiction and Percival Everett’s novel Erasure bases the movie.

At the Academy Award 2024 red carpet while speaking to Laverne Cox for E!, Brown said that he was on cloud nine to just be there. He added that he wants people to know that Black life is human life and they are closer to each other than they realize.
