As the new chapter in the Planet of the Apes franchise draws near, giving us a glimpse at the fourth installment in the franchise and what it holds for us, there is that sinking feeling in the hearts of many about Andy Serkis‘ absence from the new film. And now, even the director of the upcoming film in the series has confirmed that the star will not be part of this project.

But it’s not like the last film in the series was the end of the star’s journey in this franchise, as filmmaker Wes Ball assures that he has plans. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine in their latest issue (via SlashFilm), he revealed that he desperately wanted the Black Panther star to return to the franchise in the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but had little idea how to go about it, which is why he didn’t for this film.

But according to him, he will definitely be coming up with new plans to make this happen in the future projects in the franchise, saying:

“We talked about it, for sure. Like, ‘Could you play another ape character?’ I entertained that thought for a long time, because I thought it would be f***ing cool. And Matt [Reeves] would always say, ‘Andy is the best actor I’ve ever worked with.’ He’s just too iconic, in a way. So we decided it’s probably best to think about future movies where maybe he can come in.”

Thus, fans of the star and the franchise need not worry since a plan to bring him back to his most iconic film series is underway.
