James Wan’s contribution to the horror genre cannot be understated, as he has delivered some of the biggest hits in the niche over the years. After working for years in the same genre, Wan is undoubtedly ready to add another gem to his already bejeweled crown.
Yes, we are talking about none other than his upcoming movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Ahead of the new film, director James Wan provided the answer to the long-awaited question about casting Patrick Wilson in most of his projects.
James Wan Explains His Relationship With Patrick Wilson
Patrick Wilson has appeared in more than 60 movies during his acting career, but his collaboration with James Wan in The Conjuring and Insidious franchises has earned him his flowers in the industry.
Wilson will portray the role of King Orm/Ocean Master in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, to further continue his partnership with the talented director. Speaking of which, Wan shared his honest answer in an exclusive interview with Slash Film about why he loves to work with Patrick Wilson.
People ask me, ‘Why do you work with Patrick as often as you do?’ and it’s pretty simple: Patrick is a talented actor. He’s great. He’s really easy to work with. He is no fuss. And at the end of the day, he is a big film buff. He’s such a film fan, which — some people were a little bit surprised when he wanted to direct.
Wan simply pointed out that Wilson is a talented actor, and he never makes a fuss when he is on the set. It’s a dream for any director to have such an actor who never causes any trouble for him.
On top of that, Wan also mentioned Wilson’s love for movies in general, which makes him a desirable actor to work with. As we mentioned earlier, Wilson will play the role of the popular DC supervillain Ocean Master in Aquaman 2.
James Wan Trusts Patrick Wilson in a Stressful Industry
Filmmaking is a multi-billion dollar industry, but at the same time it develops a lot of stress for those involved in it. After all, making a movie or TV show is not everyone’s cup of tea.
Keeping that in mind, James Wan revealed in the same interview with Slash Film that he’s happy to find someone like Wilson, who he can trust and enjoys working with.
He gets me, I get him, and we kind of have a very shorthand way of working. We trust each other and it makes it fun. Filmmaking can be very stressful, so it’s kind of nice to surround yourself with people that you enjoy working with.
Speaking of Wilson, Wan also mentioned that many were shocked after finding out that the former directed the 2023 film Insidious: The Red Door. Wan believes Wilson’s love for films made him the perfect person to explore another career in the field of direction.
Despite his love for movies, Wilson’s directorial debut wasn’t well-received by the audience as it currently has a 5.5/10 rating on IMDb.
