Recently, due to his recent health concerns, Jamie Foxx stopped making movies for a while. However, he is now recovering and can come back on the big screen soon.
This year, in April, Foxx was admitted to the Emergency room due to an unknown illness. The reason behind his hospitalization has remained scarce for several months, but several weeks after the news broke up, the actor thanked his fans and appreciated all the support he had received.
The Oscar winner used his humor to tell about his medical condition that he was blind, paralyzed, or a clone, but did not disclose what he has been going through. TMZ reported that Foxx is recovering in Chicago and has transferred to a rehabilitation center in the same city.
But amidst his health concerns and recovery stage, Spawn’s creator, Todd McFarlane, has assured fans that there are no plans to change Spawn’s long-selected lead star.
Todd McFarlane Confirms Jamie Foxx Will Remain Spawn Star
The Spawn movie has been in the works since 2015. Jamie Foxx will star as the titular character — Spawn, and Jeremy Renner has been cast as Twitch since 2018. While the movie has been developing for years, Todd McFarlane has reassured fans that the Django Unchained star will remain the lead star amidst his health concerns.
Reports of Jamie Foxx playing Al Simmons in a new Spawn movie date back to at least 2018 when McFarlane was set to direct the reboot. As the movie has struggled to gain further traction, the creator has stepped down from the director’s role.
However, the project has faced numerous challenges, including director changes and script revisions. And now Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman, and Matthew Mixon would be writing a new version of the script — as McFarlane revealed last year.
In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, McFarlane confirmed that Foxx is still in the project as long as he remains interested. McFarlane also noted that the actor himself is genuinely excited about the casting, and he doesn’t want the Oscar winner walking away from the project:
“Until Jamie says he can’t, he’s still my guy,” said McFarlane, noting how Foxx’s recent health scare hasn’t affected Spawn. “I’m very loyal to people, and Jamie was my guy and has been my guy. He’s had a bit of a setback and he says he’s going to get back to the top of the mountain. I have no doubt. I know Jamie — he is a very strong-willed, determined human being. So he tells me, ‘Don’t worry about me, Todd. I’ll be there when the bell rings. I’ll be there.’ So I have complete and utter confidence.”
The good news is, despite several changes and Foxx’s concerning health conditions, the Spawn reboot is still set to have him starring as the titular anti-hero.
Todd McFarlane Reveals Spawn‘s Script Was Nearly Finished Before Writers Strike
Todd McFarlane also provided a big update on the progress of the Spawn script. Speaking with ComicBook.com, he said that when the WGA strike broke out, there were approximately 30 pages left:
“We were in the middle of writing the script and then the writers strike came.”
The creator also noted that “as soon as the strike’s over,” he’s assuming that the screenwriters are “going to quickly finish that up.” He hinted that writers are working towards concluding the script and indicated that the remaining pages will be completed soon.
A release date for the Spawn‘s reboot hasn’t yet been set, but Blumhouse head Jason Blum also stated earlier to ComicBook.com this year that the movie will be released sometime in 2025. He also asserted that it is under a “very very active development.”
