Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Bloodborne is rumored to be getting a live-action horror movie adaptation, reportedly being helmed by Adam Wingard, and will see Bill Skarsgard in the lead protagonist’s role. Wingard is known for his successful horror projects, which bode well for a Bloodborne live-action movie.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, who released the news on his Patreon, Sony is producing the project, talks for which have been ongoing for the past few months. The rumor also fuels further speculation that a remake or a remastered version of the game could also be on the way, as has been speculated for a long time.
Blair Witch Director to Reportedly Helm a Bloodborne Live-Action Movie
Daniel Richtman is known for his reliable rumors, and now he has dropped a Patreon post about a live-action Bloodborne adaptation in the works. Adam Wingard’s prolific experience with horror films matches the game’s setting, which deals with horrific beasts in a fictional Gothic city named Yharnam.
Richtman had reported late last year about PlayStation Productions and Sony hiring writers and producers for the movie adaptation. FromSoftware’s PlayStation exclusive, Bloodborne, scored near-perfect reviews post-launch. Fans have been hoping for a sequel or a remastered edition of the original game for a long time now.
Having sold over 7 million copies by February 2022, it was one of the most successful titles to have come out of the studio. It was also nominated for several categories at The Game Awards. Fans will also hope a Bloodborne movie leads to an Elden Ring live-action adaptation as well.
Richtman had also leaked Catherine O’Hara’s casting in the second season of The Last of Us and, more recently, Pedro Pascal’s casting in the upcoming Marvel movie, Fantastic Four. Both of those rumors were confirmed to be true soon after.
Fans Hopeful Movie Leads to Bloodborne Remastered
A Reddit discussion about the rumor was filled with comments by fans of the masterpiece game, hopeful that Sony will finally do something about it. There have been no sequels or remastered editions of the game, as has been the case with several titles in recent times.
With the title turning a decade old next year, fans are now hoping to get a remastered edition.
Several others also commented, hoping for a PC version of the game to be released before a movie gets officially announced. As for the movie, there was general agreement over the choice of director and the lead protagonists, as both of them had worked on projects of similar genres.
Bill Skarsgård will be seen in the upcoming movie Boy Kills World, an action-thriller, and is also all set to be the lead protagonist in The Crow, a supernatural superhero movie. Adam Wingard is popularly known for the 2017 thriller Death Note, after which he has worked on Godzilla x Kong and its upcoming sequel as well.
