Hogwarts Legacy is now over one year old. In celebration, the developers, Avalanche Software, revealed some stats on Twitter/X to celebrate. Gamers have played 740 million hours, fast traveled 3.05 billion times, and defeated 375 million trolls. That’s a lot of playing.
Among other stats, most of the players sorted into Slytherin at 30%, with Gryffindor right behind at 29%. More importantly, players spent 51 million hours on the broom.
With that much time, it’s clear the upcoming Harry Potter Quidditch Game, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, is going to be very popular. But the question is, why did Avalanche not include something Quidditch related in Hogwarts Legacy?
Harry Potter Fast Seller: Hogwarts Legacy + Quidditch
Using a broom in Hogwarts Legacy is essential to get from one key point to another. It’s very iconic to the Harry Potter franchise and a must-have inclusion for Avalanche’s AAA title.
Players still fast traveled billions of times as it was quicker than traveling on a broom. Still, clocking in millions of hours on the boom is fantastic because it shows promise for the upcoming Quidditch game.
The upcoming title will not be developed by Avalanche Software, but rather Unbroken Studios. They most recently helped Rocksteady Studios with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Hopefully their time on that project will allow them to create a fantastic Quidditch multiplayer game in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
Furthermore, focusing on just Quidditch can lead to a much more polished experience. While Avalanche could have done a Quidditch mini-game for Hogwarts Legacy, giving Harry Potter fans the best Quidditch gameplay for the current generation of consoles and PC is even better.
Why No Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy?
While there’s no official word from Avalanche as to why Quidditch did not appear in Hogwarts Legacy, the plot indicates that it was canceled. Simply removing the popular fictional sport from the Harry Potter game with a single line of dialogue. Interesting approach, which gave the studio an “easy way out”.
The development cycle likely did not allow the team room to create a Quidditch mode or a simple minigame. Likely requiring too many resources and not enough time, even though Hogwarts Legacy fans would have loved it.
Some believe it still has the potential for future DLC, if Avalanche decides to release any. The popular theory that’s going around is the existence of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions means they can sell it separately as its own game.
Effectively charging Harry Potter fans again for a full fledged gaming experience, but with just Quidditch. It does sound reasonable as I’m sure Warner Bros. Games does not want two Quidditch games existing simultaneously, even if one is DLC for Hogwarts Legacy.
Players in Hogwarts Legacy still spent over 50 million hours on a broom. Imagine if Quidditch was in the game? That number could be doubled, if not tripled.
