James Gunn Went Through An Extremely Low Phase

Following his successful collaboration with Marvel and the first two films of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, James Gunn was at an all time high as a filmmaker. But as the saying goes, with great success comes crippling failure too. Gunn’s stardom was derailed suddenly in 2018 when he was abruptly fired by Disney to step down as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 due to questionable and controversial tweets that he had posted ten years prior regarding p*dophilia and molestation.

With his character being questioned , criticized and ripped apart overnight, the Suicide Squad director’s life was turned upside down professionally and emotionally. Speaking of the challenging period in which he endured a ton of hate and insults, Gunn elaborated on his helplessness and said,

“Holy S**t. I’ve been working my entire life to be loved by all these people, by the world and everything I’ve worked for is gone”

The extremely difficult period in which Gunn feared the end of his career and his friendships in the industry, almost made him want to run away. But the DC head  was eternally thankful for his family, his wife Jennifer Holland, his friends, and actors from the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy for firmly standing by him. Their support ensured that Gunn was eventually reinstated as the director for the 3rd installment.

What Are James Gunn’s Plans For Superman: Legacy?

The head Of DC James Gunn is already working on overdrive to create a new and improved look for the franchise and its films. Using the expertise that he gained from Marvel and the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Gunn aims to take DC to the next level. One of the biggest movies that will come out of the DC camp will be Superman: Legacy, a completely fresh take on the Man of Steel which will be directed by Gunn himself. The filmmaker confessed that he was not always enthusiastic to take on the celebrated superhero and his legacy.

“It’s easier to take a character nobody knows, like the Guardians, or Peacemaker, and then do whatever you want with them. People in every single country in the world know the story of Superman. How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made so far?. So it just took me some time to try to figure it out”.

After his very public ousting of Henry Cavill as Superman, it remains to be seen who Gunn will cast as the Man of Steel in his film.
