There are certain roles in every actor’s catalog that become so popular that they end up defining their whole career no matter how many other different movies or series they add to their resume. Be it Kate Winslet’s Rose in Titanic or Johnny Depp’s fumbling pirate Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Similarly, Sarah Jessica Parker will forever be seen as Carrie Bradshaw by her millions of fans, and for good reason. The 58-year-old brilliantly led one of the most iconic franchises, Sex and the City between 1998 to 2004.

What Sarah Jessica Parker Said About Sex and the City Sequel

The fans of the television series followed Carrie’s life on the big screen as well, and the 2008 movie, Sex and the City emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year, grossing over $400 million at the box office.

While the television series started with Sarah Jessica Parker‘s character and her friends’ struggles with their s*x lives, the movie focused on Carrie’s love life, as she gears up to get married to her Mr. Big.

The sequel to the movie followed quickly, with Sex and the City 2 releasing in 2010. This time, the four friends take a trip to Abu Dhabi. Against a budget of around $100 million, the movie globally collected $290 million, which is reasonably considered a fine performance at the box office.

However, Parker didn’t enjoy the movie very much. While speaking during the Vulture Festival (via Vanity Fair) in 2017, she said: “I can see where we fell short on that movie, and I’m perfectly happy to say that publicly. I will say, I also understand how much frickin’ money it made. I feel like that is forgotten in the discussion.”

As is the case with popular franchise-backed movies, their core audience is so big that one way or another they end up attracting sizable audiences to theaters. Critically, the sequel to Sex and the City was a disappointment and is rated 4.5/10 on IMDb.

Will There Be Another Season of Sex and the City’s Revival Show

During the same discussions, Parker did acknowledge that the experience of making the movie was pretty good and meaningful. Considering Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon had been working together since the 90s, it’s understandable they enjoyed filming together.

Accordingly, when Sex and City‘s revival show, titled And Just Like That… was announced not many fans raised their eyebrows. Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw returned to our televisions to deal with her life and friendship in her 50s.

The big surprise and change from the original Sex and the City series was the absence of Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha Jones. Regardless, the show has performed well and is set to be extended to a third season.
