Devin Haney is currently one of the faces of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and ranks among the best active boxers in the world. However, Haney’s recent boxing matches have been filled with controversy, particularly his bout against Vasiliy Lomachenko, which resulted in a loss for the latter.
Given the controversial nature of the fight, actor Tom Holland supporting Lomachenko sparked the ire of Haney. The boxer has hit back against Holland, supporting his rival with a controversial remark that is unlikely to sit well with Holland and his fans. Here is what Devin Haney said after Holland supported Lomachenko.
Boxer Devin Haney Gives a Controversial Response to Tom Holland For Supporting Vasiliy Lomachenko
Devin Haney faced boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20, 2023, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas. The lightweight division match between Haney, the undisputed champion, and Lomachenko, the three-time former world champion, ended with a unanimous decision win for Haney. As a result, the match’s outcome proved to be controversial.
During an appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast, actor Tom Holland, known for playing Spider-Man in the MCU, supported Lomachenko, who outstriked Haney in the later rounds, making his loss questionable. However, Holland’s comments sparked a reaction from Haney, who responded in the most unconventional manner by tweeting the following on X.
I always had a thing for Zendaya.. https://t.co/y9NUweQFH4

As a result, Haney was evidently unhappy with Holland supporting Lomachenko after their intense battle. However, Haney seemingly crossed a line by dragging Holland’s girlfriend, Zendaya, into the matter and using her name on social media to hit back at Holland. Therefore, Haney’s reaction to Holland’s comment also proved to be controversial among fans of the actor.
Devin Haney Faces First Loss In Latest Bout Against Ryan Garcia
After Haney’s controversial bout against Lomachenko, he challenged Regis Prograis and emerged as the WBC super lightweight champion. Haney’s next opponent in the lightweight division was announced as Ryan Garcia. Their match was scheduled for April 20, 2024, with the WBC super lightweight title on the line. Haney entered the match as the favorite to win, with the boxer holding titles in two weight divisions and also sporting a spotless professional record.
Before the match, Haney held a record of 31 wins from 31 fights with 15 wins by knockout. On the other hand, Garcia had 24 wins and one loss (against Gervonta Davis in April 2023) from 25 matches. Garcia had won 20 of his matches by knockout. Haney and Garcia’s bout took place in Brooklyn, New York, and lasted full twelve rounds. Garcia also knocked Haney down thrice during the bout.
Ultimately, Garcia was declared the winner via the majority decision, handing Haney his first-ever loss. However, Haney retained his WBC super lightweight champion title after Garcia failed to meet the weight limit to be eligible for winning the title. Nonetheless, Garcia would certainly be happy after defeating Haney for the first time in his career.
