The tale of the Dark Knight has been told again and again over the years through the many live-action adaptations. While these previous live-action iterations of Batman have been dark and gritty, Matt Reeves‘ The Batman is even a step further in that direction.

An incredibly dark and gloomier-than-usual tale of the Dark Knight, Reeves’ universe is expanding with the upcoming spin-off series, The Penguin, slated to release soon. Starring Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, the series is just as how fans want it to be.

In an interview with HeyUGuys, Farrell stated,

“Well, tons of violence, abject darkness, and a man at great struggle to try and claw his way to the top of the power vacuum that was created at the end of The Batman film. With the death of Carmine Falcone, there’s a power grab in Gotham now. It’s dark, man!… Just really, really bold stuff, I couldn’t believe that it got as dark as it gets.”

Adding on that had it been a film, The Penguin would certainly be a hard R, Colin’s comments have left the fans entranced, many of whom can hardly wait to see the series.
