In an interview with The Matrixfans.Net, Carrie Anne Moss recalled how she got the part in The Matrix. She stated that it was a regular process of a few rounds of auditioning and screen testing. In the three days of screen testing, Moss’ first day involved 3 intense hours of training after which she could not walk for days.

“I auditioned in the regular way, first for the casting director and then for The Wachowski brothers. After that, I did this most amazing three-day process of screen testing for the film. The first day of which was three hours of running, kung fu, and taping all these different fights. A really intense 3 hours of just brutal training from which I couldn’t walk for days.”

While she pushed through the screen test and many other difficult scenes, there was one that she simply couldn’t do. In an interview with The Guardian, she stated,

“In the first one, there was one scene where they had me in kind of a stiletto, and I couldn’t do the scene. I had auditioned with that scene and then suddenly there we are on the day shooting it and I was unsteady…I’m whispering in the guy’s ear and I’m supposed to be really grounded and strong, and yet I could barely stand straight,”

The solution came in the form of heeled boot which was comfortable enough for Moss to carry the scene out and deliver it with perfection!

The Keanu Reeves-starred released all the way back in 1999. Even today, people cannot forget the cultural impact the film had. Speaking about this to The Guardian, Moss stated that she feels honored to be a part of such a film. She then stated that whenever she felt “the weight” of the cultural impact, she gets overwhelmed to have had a part in the film

“I am definitely honoured to be in a film that made such an impact, and I am deeply respectful of the part that I play in that story. I also have my own personal life that does not include any of that, and so I don’t really feel the cultural impact. At the same time, when I do feel the weight of it, I’m moved that I got chosen to be that part of this film, and what it means to people, and I don’t take that lightly.”

Moss went on to say that The Matrix was not just another job for her as it impacted the women around her. She recalled that female directors and stuntwomen would thank her for opening the doors of possibility for them.
