The Star Trek franchise has several movies and TV shows running and in development. Yet Star Trek: Lower Decks has had a special place in the hearts of the fans for its family-centered characters and being an animated series specifically made for adult audiences. Starring several amazing actors, the series unfortunately would be discontinued after its season five.
As the shocking news was made public, fans were visibly upset but no one seemed to be as upset as the Lower Decks’ star Jack Quaid. In a recent Instagram post, the actor addressed the series’ end and also hopes that the show will be continued by some other studio after Paramount discontinues it.
Jack Quaid Posts Heartfelt Message As Star Trek: Lower Deck Is Discontinued
Star Trek: Lower Decks is an adult animated sci-fi series, that first graced our screens in 2020. The first series since Star Trek: The Animated Series to cater to an adult audience, it follows the story of the low-ranking crew of starship Cerritos.
Known for its laughs and self-parody theme, Star Trek: Lower Decks has since gained a loyal fanbase for its witty humor, cultural references, and unique perspective on the huge Star Trek universe. Voicing the character Brad Boimler, Jack Quaid is a rule-abiding Starfleet officer who dreams of becoming a captain one day.
As the news of the series’ discontinuation went viral (see Variety), the actor, in a heartfelt message on his Instagram, posted,
“Hello Lower Deckers. I’m so sad to announce that Paramount Plus won’t be moving forward with more seasons of Lower Decks. I can’t begin to tell you what an honor it’s been to be a part of this show and the Star Trek universe at large. I am unbelievably grateful for 5 awesome seasons with this wonderful family. I want to thank each and every person who put so much of their hard work and talent into every episode. You are AMAZING.”
As his earnest message to fans, creators, and fellow cast members went viral, fans exclaimed that they could not understand why the series had been canceled. As countless fans mourn the end of the hit Star Trek show, Quaid expressed that he hopes Lower Decks will find a new home.

While there are several Star Trek TV shows, Lower Decks has a special place in the fans’ hearts for its theme and storyline centered on the otherwise neglected lower crew. While Jess Grossman, the executive Vice President of programming at Paramount Plus expressed that they cannot wait for fans to see the fifth and final season of the series (via Variety), Jack Quaid had some other words to say.
As he thanked everyone involved in the creation of the show in his Instagram post, the actor added in the end how he hopes the series will someday find another home.
“The good news is that everyone who makes Lower Decks LOVES making Lower Decks. I could play Boimler for 17 more seasons. No joke. I’m serious. I love that purple-haired nerd. Hopefully we find a new home, but until then please look forward to an amazing season five (airing this fall). LLAP.”
Although the cast and characters of Lower Decks have made appearances elsewhere in the Star Trek universe, fans sincerely hope that Quaid’s wishes come true someday.
As they await news of the last and final season, the series will forever be remembered by the fans as one of the most entertaining and alluring shows of the sci-fi mythos.
Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 will premiere sometime in the fall of 2024.
