The biggest question among fans now is who would be the scary monster that Kong goes up against in the next movie. After battling and defeating Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, the duo goes up against Scar King in the most recent MonsterVerse movie. But with the news of a possible sequel on the horizon, fans are bound to speculate and theorize about what comes next.

Adam Wingard Is Cooking Up Something in The MonsterVerse

When Adam Wingard started working on 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, he was finally figuring out how to work a MonsterVerse movie, when he found he was already at the end of his journey. So when the director was asked back to work on The New Empire, he was ecstatic. And now that he has worked on these two movies, there is a possible trilogy in the making (via The Wrap).

“I’ve done two movies now and there’s definitely a draw of the idea of making it a trilogy, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Speaking of what he could do with the next, Wingard said:

“I definitely have some ideas. We do a lot of easter eggs and hinting at where the series would go. There’s a definitive idea of the direction and the potential monsters that could be appearing in the next one.”

Given he has some idea of which possible monster could come out of the woods to wreak havoc, let’s take a pick of our own.

From Mechagodzilla to Mechani-Kong – A World of Titans

After battling Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, the biggest possibility of where this story could move towards, is Mechani-Kong. The robotic version of Kong, could very well be adapted from Scar King, who we don’t know for sure is dead. In the most recent movie, Project Powerhouse captures Scar King to implore him to kill Godzilla. In revenge, Kong is seen to be killing Scar King, but it is not shown whether the latter is really dead. He could have been captured by Project Powerhouse once more, and be made into Mechanikong, similar to what was done with King Ghidorah.

After King Ghidorah’s defeat at the hands of Godzilla in 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters, we see the former being transformed into Mechagodzilla, who is the main antagonist in Godzilla vs. Kong. Now, after Scar King’s defeat at the hands of Kong, they could adapt a similar path, and evolve Scar King into Mechani-Kong. In a world of Titans, this is a very big possibility, and fans would be all the more excited about it.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in theaters now.
