In an interview with Issuu, Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds shared what he aspired to do growing up. The Deadpool actor shared that his father was a cop and so were his two brothers and following in on their footsteps, he was also planning to follow suit in public service by joining the Fire Department.

“I was thinking of becoming a fireman,” Reynolds shared during the interview, as he explained that he even started preparing for the entrance exam before learning that he did not have a chance due to the Fire Department’s mandate. He shared.

“I had actually started studying for the entrance exam but then a friend told me that I didn’t have a chance because the fire department had a mandate to hire women and visible minorities.”

Realizing he didn’t fit into either category, he decided to quit his plans to join the Fire Department and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. “I think I was also rebelling against my family profession,” he said, explaining that he did not inform his parents about his move to California or his plans to pursue a career in Hollywood.

Ryan Reynolds Took Drama Classes in High School

During his conversation with Issuu, Ryan Reynolds also opened up about choosing a career in the film industry. He shared that growing up he took drama classes in high school and would do a lot of improv. This allowed him to discover his love for acting, which allowed him to be “very adventurous and wild.”

However, being a policeman his father was often pretty tough on him and his three older brothers.  The intense environment of his home built a desire in him to get away from his house and be on his own. And the opportunity came to him when casting directors from Nickelodeon visited his town.

“One day casting directors from Nickelodeon showed up in town and asked every high school drama teacher to send their four best drama students to audition,” he recalled. However, he was not among the students that were picked for the audition.

Despite that, he continued auditioning until he eventually landed a role in the teen sitcom Fifteen, which kickstarted his acting career. Reynolds has since grown to become one of the prominent figures in Hollywood with several major hits under his name and has fans eagerly anticipating his upcoming film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to release on July 26, 2024.
