2022 had some of the most shocking scandals in store for Hollywood. Will Smith created a ruckus at the Oscars. Justice League star Ezra Miller made headlines for indulging in violent and bizarre behavior. And let’s not forget Kanye West’s excruciating downward spiral toward infamy. But out of all these bewildering controversies, the Depp v. Heard trial perhaps became the most publicized spectacle of the year.

The defamation lawsuit that became the highlight of thousands of media outlets across the world in April, saw Johnny Depp emerge victorious after an exasperating and tedious court battle against his ex-wife. The win certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the prolific efforts of the former’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez, who fought the case with intense dedication. However, at the end of the day, the American attorney wished that things wouldn’t have reached such a drastic point in the first place.

Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Wasn’t Keen on Filing the Lawsuit At First

Starting from early April, the bone-chilling Depp v. Heard trial went on for six long weeks before the jury passed its verdict and declared Amber Heard guilty of defaming her ex-husband. The entirety of the lawsuit was broadcasted on social media and people from all over the world got vehemently involved in the case. Johnny Depp‘s fans even dragged Heard’s career and reputation through the dregs of hell in the most appalling way possible. It’s baffling to think how all of this could’ve been avoided if only the Pirates of the Caribbean actor wouldn’t have sued Heard, to begin with.

In a recent interview with Game Changers Summit, Camille Vasquez who represented the award-winning actor in court claimed how she was uncertain about taking over Depp’s case at the start of it all. She didn’t even believe “filing this lawsuit was a good idea” at all.

“Truth be told, I didn’t think that filing this lawsuit was a good idea. But it was an incredibly personal lawsuit for him, and hopefully, the last lawsuit he has to engage in.”

Ultimately though, when Depp requested her to join on board, she realized that the case very strongly needed “a woman’s perspective,” especially given the nature of the lawsuit and Heard’s role in it.

“After it was filed, he approached me along with my partner, Ben Chew, and asked if I would join the team. And I was one of the few women on the team and I really think that this case called for a woman’s perspective.”

After all that was said and done, however, Depp came out glorious on the other side of the nasty case with him getting more than $10 million in damages and Heard’s allegations against him not proven defamatory.

Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Was Honored to Fight For Him in the Legal Battle

During the time of trial, Vasquez had become an internet sensation in a matter of days thanks to her unrelenting hard work with regard to her client’s case. She fought tooth and nail to preserve Depp’s reputation against Heard’s claims and gracefully yet formidably won the trial. Despite her having some reservations at first about taking over the lawsuit, Vasquez said she was honored to represent her client all the same.

“It was really my honor to be able to represent him in this matter because it was so personal to him.”

Vasquez, 38, is presently a partner in Brown Rudnick’s Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group. Her firm was recently rumored to have been approached by the controversial rapper Kanye West following his recent business affairs and social media debacles, and she was reportedly said to represent his case. While new reports claim that she has declined to be his legal counsel, no official word from Vasquez has been received on the entire situation yet.
