Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe continues to grow and evolve with more and more spin-offs on the way. Despite the end of Kevin Costner’s journey in the Western world with season 5, Sheridan seems to have no plans to end the universe with John Dutton. And Harrison Ford’s 1923 is one of the many spin-offs existing and said to be in the works.
Starring in the prequel series, and playing the great great grand uncle of John Dutton, Ford does an impeccable job as always. Playing a character related to Costner’s Dutton, any other actor would have thought to reach out to Costner, especially given the rumored feud between Sheridan and the Yellowstone star. Yet, Ford had other plans.
Harrison Ford Had No Plans to Reach Out to Kevin Costner Regarding Yellowstone Prequel
1923 sees one of the many generations of the Dutton family battling various hardships in the United States. Set during the Prohibition and Great Depression era, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren lead the show as Jacob and Cara Dutton respectively.
Yet, Harrison Ford, despite playing another generation of Dutton did not bother to check with Kevin Costner regarding the role or the series. Given the attention Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan‘s alleged feud has garnered (see Dexterto), any actor would want to clear things up before signing up for a show as closely tied with Yellowstone.
However, when in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ford remarked he did not want since he did not want Costner’s relationship with Sheridan to affect his relationship and thoughts on the show.
“Nope. I wanted my own singular relationship with Taylor to rule my behavior and my thoughts. I didn’t want to dirty up the road with somebody else’s. I have no idea how they get along. I would assume they get along great because Kevin does a great job.”
While Costner does do an incredible job and so does Ford, the alleged feud between Costner and Sheridan continues to haunt the legacy of the series. However, Ford seems to have changed his mind for the two legends were recently spotted at the Golden Globes engaged in fervent discussion (see Instagram).
Kevin Costner on Harrison Ford Joining Yellowstone Prequel
Having an actor as legendary as Harrison Ford was not as easy of a task, yet Taylor Sheridan did it and even got Helen Mirren to star as his on-screen wife. While fans were left wonderstruck, Kevin Costner was not as surprised.
While speaking to ET, the Academy Award-winning actor revealed how it would have probably been Sheridan’s talent and writing that had made the two actors sign up for Yellowstone prequel, in 1923.
“I think people, actors in general, move towards writing. I think that as long as they’re going to stay in this game, you want to go to a place that surprises you. If it doesn’t surprise you, it’s very unlikely that it will surprise an audience.”
Costner’s comments seemed to echo Ford’s statements during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he remarked that it was the trust in Sheridan’s talent that prompted him to sign up for the show.
Although there seems to be no news as to when season 2 of 1923 will be here, fans can hardly wait for Ford to return as Jacob Dutton.
