She reached heights of success from supporting roles to starring in lead ones. Parker has played various characters in different genres in movies like Failure to Launch, Ad Wood, The First Wives Club, The Family Stone, and Hocus Pocus, which have earned her critical acclaim.

But the actress is widely recognized as Carrie Bradshaw — the fictional lead character in the HBO series Sex and the City franchise. Carrie’s character has a strong need to connect emotionally with others. She’s that friend who’s always up for a heart-to-heart chat with the people she really cares about.

She is also ready to advise her friends whenever needed (especially in relationships). And that’s the reason people would come up to Sarah Jessica Parker (the actress who portrayed Carrie Bradshaw) for real-life relationship advice.

But despite this, she was never short of advice when her friends hit a rough patch in their relationships. Parker is undoubtedly glad to play the character of Carrie, but she admits to getting frustrated when it comes to asking relationship questions. She said (via IMDb):

“I get the feeling people are disappointed with me because I don’t have the answers for them. I have to remind them that I don’t have a Ph.D. in s*x or counseling.”

The Hocus Pocus star asserted that she is not an expert in the matter of the heart.

It would be difficult to imagine someone else in place of Carrie Bradshaw besides Sarah Jessica Parker. But it could have been true because the actress herself revealed that she first didn’t want to appear in Sex and the City.

Seth Rudesky (who worked with the style icon and her husband Matthew Broderick at a Broadway event) has revealed in a column for Playbill that she tried every possible way to get out of that role.

Parker was initially hesitant to take on the role of Carrie in Sex and the City because she didn’t want to be typecast in a long-running TV series. But after reading the script, she liked the smart and funny writing of Darren Starr (who wrote the character by specifically considering her in mind). So, she got ready to film the first episode. As Rudinsky wrote:

“Months later she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely.”

He also added:

“She really didn’t want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a “journeyman.””

The actress tried various ways to get out of the role. She also told HBO that she would film three projects for free if they would let go from her contract. But ultimately, they convinced her to continue with the role, and she has no regrets now.
